Stuck In Time?

What’s weirder than time standing still at six o’clock? Chapter 7 of Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll! This week, our LMS 6th graders in Mrs. Ruble’s RLA classes had their own “Tea Party” while exploring this part of the classic story. Students participated in a Reader’s Theater for Chapter 7 by reading aloud. They noticed that Alice started the chapter with perfect manners. But after sitting through the never-ending tea party (because it’s always six o’clock!), trying to solve riddles that have no answers, and listening to the Dormouse’s wild story, Alice finally declared it “the stupidest tea-party” ever! Then she left! Next, Mrs. Ruble challenged the students to Explain, Cite, and Respond with clear answers supported by evidence from the text. They practiced writing full responses using the Restate, Answer, Cite, and Explain (RACE) method. By the end of the lesson, everyone had a neat, complete, and organized one-page document. This activity was not just fun, it’s just like what the STAAR test might ask, so completing it helps students build important reading and writing skills. Thank you Mrs. Ruble, for an impactful lesson!
