Dissecting Frogs

Among the Bunsen burners and Petri dishes of LMS Science Teacher Mrs. Olivia Magee's science lab sits dead frogs for seventh graders to dissect! As students wearing a smock, goggles, and rubber gloves dove in to dissect, not one was grossed out or squeamish! Mrs. Magee had already taught the basics of what would happen and ensured that students still showed respect even though the frog wasn't living. Seeing these organs and understanding how they work within the frog allowed students to understand how these systems work within many other animals, including themselves. Mrs. Magee made sure that they related learning to human anatomy as students discovered organs. This teaching lesson was not only valid for making connections; it made students think about going into the medical field after high school and exemplified the power of in-depth learning! Thank you, Mrs. Magee, for taking your teaching further and for making learning stick! You're in the right place!
