LMS Bands Prepare for UIL Competition

The two Levelland MS bands, with the Symphonic Bands designated as "Varsity" and the Concert Band designated as "Non-Varsity" performed on Tuesday, February 23rd at the Frenship High School Performing Arts Center in a Pre-UIL evaluation of skills. The Pre-UIL format allows directors to receive quality recordings of the performance as well as written and recorded critique. Each band also receives a short face-to-face session with one of the judges to address things that are going well and things the band still needs to work on to be ready for their UIL performance in two weeks' time. Will Burks, Director of Bands for Levelland ISD, said that both bands performed extremely well given the fact that they missed an entire week of rehearsal due to recent inclement weather cancellations. Mr. Gary Owens, Director of the Middle School Band program and Mr. John Barry LHS Associate Band Director have done an admirable job preparing these groups for competition and they will continue to polish and perfect their programs over the next two weeks. UIL competition will also be held at the Frenship High School PAC on March 10th and 11th. Times for the performances will be communicated by Mr. Owens once the schedule is released. Parents and friends of LMS band students are welcome and encouraged to attend these performances which will the culminating event for the teaching and learning that takes place every day.
